What ever happened to the Northern Powerhouse?

It’s been pretty evident that neither Theresa May nor her cabinet have ever had any commitment to the Northern Powerhouse, nor to any kind of genuine devolution or regional investment for that matter, despite the ever-growing resentment towards England’s London-centric economy. But things seemed to hit a new low recently when Chris Grayling showed support for Crossrail 2 just days after cancelling the electrification of northern (and Welsh) train lines.

So today IPPR North declared today “a day of moaning” to draw attention to the issue, with constituents encouraged to write to their MPs and Councillors.

And while we’re on it, take a look at this new government job regenerating the Redcar steelworks site… based in London.
